help a newbie in unlocking iphone

hi all i have a good experience on phone software repair, but when it comes to iphone i am a complete newbie, pls all experienced members help me i am a bit confused on the different firmwares to download to be able to unlock all iphones that has unlock solutions i know,
iphone 4 firmware are ios 4.01 ios 4
iphone 3gs firmware are ios 4.01, ios 4,3.1.3,3.1.2,3.1,3.01,3.0,
iphone 3g firmware are ios 4.01,ios 4,3.1.3,3.1.2,3.1,3.01,3.0,2.21,2.2,2.1,2.02
iphone 2g firmware are 3.1.3,3.1.2,3.1,3.01,3.0,2.21,2.2,2.1,2.02,2.01
my question is, do i need to download all these individual firmwares one after the other or i need to just download some of them?do i also need to download all their custom firmwares accordingly or i just need the original firmware then convert to a custom firmware thanks in advance
 
for iphone 2g,3g you can unlock on firmware 4.0.1 but for 3gs only on firmware 3.1.3 and that is if it is activated for iphone 4 there is no jailbreak or unlock yet
 
thanks for ur reply but my question still not answered,do i need to download all the different firmwares or just the highest firmwares, and do i still need to download the custom firmwares
 
for 2g there is only up to 3.1.3
download 3.1.2 and 3.1.3
thats enough,cos u use 3.1.2 file in redsnow

for 3g there is up to 4.0

but 4.0 runs slow on 3g i think 3.1.3 is best

3gs ......its a bit complecated,

u should have a through knowledge wahts latest going on,forum reading is a must,and frinds help is also needed

3gs firmware 3.1.3 is jailbreakable till date
4.0 can not be jailbreaked till date ,work in progress and hoped to release soon

3gs activated only by original carrier sim ,or activation sim like 1sim

and jailbreak by sprit,

regarding 3gs contact the forum members ...that is good orelse u will end up in mess...and our friends r there always to help u

you can only use custom firmware if you have SHSH blob save on cydia and i think its the same for ipad
 
custom firmwares r those made by snowbreeze,activated and jailbreaked

they r simple and easy for 2g and 3g,both of them can be downgraded+upgraded without any problem

but 3gs phones come with an additional security bootrom,there the problem begins
ur phone has got an unique identity and verifies with apple server each time u want to flash ur phone,

and apple does not allow u to flash ur phone with lower versions,only the running version is allowed to flash.

when u attach ur 3gs phone and try to flash ur phone ur bootrom talks to apple server and takes permission,if all the above r verified and permission is granted bootrom allows to flashur phone

Ok since using the iPhone will make responding a bit hard due to my short term memory not being good so bear with me. To answer your questions. Not all iPhones can be unlock at the moment. Now to keep it simple and sweet. If a customer come in let's assume they haven't saved their shsh blob cause if they had most will know about jailbreak / unlocking and hence will not bring it to you in the first place. Ok now let's break the phone Down by models

iPhone 2g. Those can be jailbroken and can be upgraded to version 3.1.13. So just get that firmware and if a customer bring an iPhone 2g that is below 3.1.13, update it to that version and than unlock it.
iPhone 3G. (there are some early 3GS that are oldboot rom but to keep it simple until you get more confidence as all 3GS fall into next group). These handsets can be upgraded to iso 4.01. But some people find iso 4.01 to be slow but I find with multitasking and wallpaper off it's not slow
So on these you can either flash the handset to 3.1.13 and than jailbreak + unlock or upgrade to iso 4.01 but turn off those two features and than jailbreak + unlock
iPhone 3GS. Now if the phone come to you as 3.1.13 you can jailbreak and unlock those ones. If they come with version 4+ at the moment it can't be jailbroken hence can't be unlock. You can offer to save ( or do it but tell them to make your life easier in months to come) shsh blog
iPhone 4 can't be jailbroken + unlock at the moment

So from that you can see you only need 3.1.13 and 4 iso files

Now about custom firmwares that is nothing for you to worry about at the moment just understand them how they work. The way they work is they have the the latest firmware without the latest baseband modem version.

So you can inform customers that in future if they want to upgrade the firmware to say 4.5 do not do it themselves but bring it to you to do it otherwise I will not be held responsible what happens. The reason is cause the future firmware might have updated baseband which cant be unlock. If the baseband is updated you can't go back even if have shsh. So if they did update without listening to your warning you can offer to take their iPhone to iso 4 and can jailbreak it ( talking I future here where a solution for iso 4 is out) but can't unlock it due to baseband. But if they had brought the handset to you before they did it themselves you can use the custom firmware to update to 4.5 but keeping the baseband as if it was 4.01 hence still unlockable

Now about baseband all is unlockable at the moment but the problem is to unlock the baseband you need to jailbreak. It's a catch 22 cause at the beginning of the month one could jailbreak the latest version aka 3.1.13 but not unlock latest baseband aka 5.12.04 or whatever it was. Now it's the opposite the latest baseband can be unlock but not the latest firmware

Now this is an example where if you had started at the beginning of the year and offered to " saved" their shsh blog you could now downgrade from 4.01 to 3.1.13 and than jailbreak + unlock it. Anyway my mind has now gone blank so have to send this and will post a follow on if need be
 
thanks a million for taking time out to inform me i am realy impressed,so for the custom firmware do i need to download all custom firmwares for all versions or for just 3.1.3 and 4 or can i make them from the original firmwares ,pls if u have any thing more to let me know pls dont hesitate.
how can i unlock a 3gs with bb 5.12.1 without wireless cos all ways i have seen on forum require wlan and i dont have any wireless network in my area i only have a 3g mtn huawei modem i use.so how can i get this phone unlocked pls help
 
Why check if new or old make no difference for him. He's learning hence at this moment need to keep it simple. To your actual question you can use spirit jailbreak assuming the iPhone is already activated by iTunes. Than you can either use your mobile broadband dongle with your laptop+wireless card to make a wifi hotspot. Can send you links to how to do that if need be you than connect the iPhone to that wifi connection and do the unlock as guided in the other forums. Also doing this way get a mobile wifi hotspot which you can use as well. The second way I haven't personally use but recently a person in here called something like toolkit 1.1 or something have all the jailbreak, recovery, dig apps etc in one enclose app. But that not so important for you what is that it also enclose a one click unlocked. Which after you jailbroken the iPhone you run it. But someone else will have to tell you if it will work with spirit or not.

About custom firmwares like I said before you don't need any of them they do not apply to you. When it applies is in future when latest firmware can be jailbroken but latest baseband can't and want to upgrade to latest firmware. If got a phone not activated can use an activated simcard
 
You can make the custom firmware yourself but in most cases need a mac. Easier to just download them when u need them. Can download the those two last firmwares if you want and mess around with them ESP if it's your iPhone and don't mind if make a mistake have to wait a tick for new unlocking. ( thus is where is it new or old boot rom come in) cause if it's old you can downgrade without shsh. If you want to check if it's new or old download install and run forecast
 
pls some body should pls explain this i dont understand it,apart from the firmware without baseband unlock or upgrading what else can custom firmware be used for?
somebody gave me a 2g iphone saying he wants to upgrade the firmware from 3.0.1 to a higher version i have 3.1.2 and 3.13 pls give me the procedure on how i can get this done
