Help a dummy day ... please!! ...

There are dummies with mobile phones - and then there's ... me!
Have just switched from an LG Viewty to a Nokia Lumia 800 ... both with Vodafone.
Have inserted my new SIM card in the Lumia in the only way it accepts it ... and have charged it for over 24hrs.
I can turn it on (wow!) and look at the pretty colours and things that slide about from one side to the other and up and down. BUT  ... can I do anything else with it? No!
I cannot connect to the web and neither can I make calls ... I don't know whether I (obviously?) have a new nuraber because there was no notification of a new nuraber with the new phone and everything I CAN access when I turn it on tells me there's 'no connection' or 'no service', so I can't ring my old mobile to find out. And neither does my old LG SIM fit my new Lumia.
Frustration isn't the word for it ... and it probably won't be helped when someone on here points out something really stupid that will make me realise I'm even more of a dummy than I thought I was before!

Nevertheless ...... ?????????????

It may be that you have to activate the new sim card with Vodafone?

As far as connecting to the web..... try "Settings" "System" "WiFi" and take it form there.

Can someone just tell me whether it sounRAB as if I have a faulty phone ... or whether it has a faulty operator please? This is my first Nokia so, frankly, I have absolutely no idea whatever where to start. Just a point in the right direction would be grand!

I think you need to ring Vodafone and ask them to activate your MicroSIM, as it sounRAB like they haven't done that yet as nasib suggested. Also if you connect your Lumia 800 to your home WiFi then you'll be able to do most things with the device other than calls and texts.
