Helmet law

Actually, no I'm not antigun. From my understanding most firearm issues are with guns that are obtained illegally anyway. So imposing additional laws probably wouldn't help. However, if I thought it would save lives then I would be.

I'm not here to judge, but it is just as likely that you have a issue on your Harley than you do on the duck. I know that when I'm riding hard I am 100% into what I'm doing. When your cruising it is more difficult to be totally aware. While it appears to be your choice in you area. I do think helmet laws saves lives, and I do think legislators should impose them.

IMO, this helmet law argument falls in line with the seat belt law.

Regardless of your state's laws, I would imagine people who choose not to wear their seatbelt or helmet is because of inconvenience, discomfort or pure laziness.

But the fact of the matter still remains: Wearing a seatbelt or helmet WILL decrease your chances of certain injuries or, in worst cases, death. Period.

Wear it if you got it!
 
North Carolina has a helmet law and recently added they had to be DOT approved. No more brain buckets for the harley guys

 
IMO helmet law and seat belt laws are two different things. Seat belt laws laws should be in place, especially for the driver, because they may help the driver maintain control of the vehicle in a crash situation. The only person you may kill by not wearing a helmet is yourself, so I think it should be your choice.
I wear one 99% of the time....But I do admit that once in a while if I'm just going on a slow cruise, i leave it at home. It feels good to have the wind blowing through my receeding hairline :-)
 
Good points Five1, but if we look at it like that, I would say that wearing a helmet can help in maintaining control as well.

If I'm riding around without a helmet and bugs, pebble and other debris is striking me in the face, I may be more likely to constantly wipe my face off or protect my face, which means I'm constantly taking my hands off the controls.

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but there have been occasions where I have been riding and chunks of paint were taken off my helmet from debris. God only knows what that would have done to my head if I wasn't wearing it.

Yes they are different, but both with a common themes: Safety.

I like to feel the wind in my hair to (or lack of, as I am going bald), but that can be solved by buying a helmet with good airflo, which my X-11 does exceptionally well

Now, I am curious to why certain states require them and others don't. Is it because the number of deaths involving riders with no helmets?!?
