I recently bought a suzuki boulevard m109r and love it like crazy. I am stuck on what type of helmet will look good with it cause I want to protect me brain. Does anyone have a 109 and which helmet did you go with? Full face or half helmet? I know its a personal preference, but just curious of which one most are wearing with it.

If you want to protect the brain, I'd go with a full face.. i don't have an M50, but if youre first concern is safety, 2nd is looks.. go full face :)

:welcomes:

I strongly believe that if there were enough riders using fullface on their cruisers, better yet, some iconic figures wearing fullface helmets on cruisers, fullface helmets would be the choice for many riders. As some wise guy said: A fashion is nothing but an induced epidemic.

I ride a C50 and wear a solid white fullface SHOEI RF1000. My wife uses the same helmet in silver and my riding buddy has also the same in black. I think we make a good team on the road. 8-)

Check out the attached image.

I have both helmets and don't feel safe in my half-skull. Get a full face the same color as your bike with a medium tinted shield and it'll look good while adding more protection. Half helmets are very noisy from the wind and bugs, sand, pebbles have a field day on you face.

ever time i ride with my full-face and get smacked by a big, some sand, or a sudden gust of noisy wind, i think to myself "how the hell do you cruiser-riding beanie-wearing people put up with this type of %%%%!?" i'm thinking that either you're not actually riding out beyond the corner store, or at speeds over 20mph, or you just enjoy the bugs and dirt flying into your face and the massive amounts of wind noise in your ears.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing!
And when I see all those bugs smashed on my visor, I think "wow, does this mean I could have all these on my face if I didn't have a full face?"

But the most important thing is the safety factor. A police guy once told me that that after seeing so many accidents, he thinks they should even make it illegal to wear anything but full face helmets. He said the beanie helmets actually don't mean ANYTHING once you're flung off and the half helmet are no better. They can protect your head if you had a light fall, but in a crash, it's not going to give you the protection you need.

I only ride with a full face anything else is ...well, .... stupid if you want to at least, resemble a human if you crash face first....which by the statistics I seen posted ,the chin hits the ground first in a majority of cases.

oh and bugs too I hate those, especially pissed off bees and wasps and yellowjackets inside a helmet with no visor....Yikes!

Majority, yes, but not all. I had the fortune to go face first through my windshield (probably breaking, definitely cutting, my nose and likely slowing my speed) then cracking my helmet near the forehead onto the car/pavement next.

Here's my ugly mug about an hour later:

With a 109........

Ball cap backwards or a Do-Rag will suffice.

Oh....don't forget sunglasses specifically made for riding (seals around the eyes to prevent wind from getting to the eyes.), and you'll be good to go.

You have a point Don. However, I'm not sure of his skill level. Far be it from me to give someone bad advice about gear, when I don't know what their limits are!

I have ridden for years, as most of us have. I hate helmets. I love going to the midwest visiting family where I don't have to wear one. Half shell for me. I was a paratrooper, when its my time, its my time.

Most of the guys riding lid-less around here are riding road-kings or utlra-glides with windscreens the size of a patio door. I'm guessing that's what cuts down on the bugs.

I started out with a beanie--all I can say is LOUD!! with earplugs and the wind I coulden't even hear the bike rev!!!
I went with a full face that has the flip up front(I forget what they are called) it is a ZOX it cost around 170 and the quality is as good as all the other expensive helmets I ever had.

Oh yeah now I can hear the bike and not the wind!!!!!!---LOL
