Helmet in Tour Pack

For those inclined to wear a helment and/or store one in your tour pack, a word of warning...

I placed my wife's new helmet in the tour pack while my son rode with with me this past weekend. When I opened the tour pack to remove her helmet later, the top of her helmet was scratched, through the color coat. Apparently the bolt head that secures the tour pack rack rubbed on the helment as it vibrated inside the pack.

Another lesson learned, but we had just upgraded her helmet with a more comfortable (and more expensive) one less than a week before.

I agree, did the same thing and found out on my helmet. When we travel now we are sure to wrap them in a towel, never know when you will need one anyways, especially here in florida. And we keep a small soft sided cooler in there for a few bottles of water, and it keeps both helmets away from each other and they don't wobble around.

Did the same with my DOT helmet (keep one in there for when I ride thru one of those "Nazi" cities that will pull you over just for a novelty helmet). If the helmet is black, you can use a "Sharpie" marking pen to cover the scraches then just give it a coat of wax. Not perfect but, better than big 'ol white scrahes on there!

Me too, Rain gear stores nicely inside that backup helmet.
I put silicone on the exposed rack bolt heads to help protect stuff.
I was always going to get one of those liners for inside of the TP's lid, forgot who sells that nice one?

I put those round felt self-adhesive pads on the bolt heads. The ones you use to keep the cabinet doors from slamming. Did it the same day I installed the rack and never had a scratch. Home Depot has them as well as rubber bumpers and similat things. Clean the bolts with alcohol and they'll never fall off.

I've done it too. My fullface is at the point I just don't care anymore though.
I think if you threw some sand and some raw aluminum parts in the tourpack, and rode a hundred miles - you'd have some perfectly polished parts when you stopped!
Ever try bringing a banana to work in your lunch? Aint pretty!
