I would suggest using aviary.com. It is much easier to use than GIMP, and is browser based. This way there is no software eating up your precious hard drive space.
There are currently four tools available including: color palette editor, image editor, vector editor, and a visual laboratory. There are also another 11 tools in the making meaning that there will more tools in Aviary than there are in Adobe's master collection.
