HeliBars - 1098?

Anyone have a set of Helibars on their 1098? I know the 1098 is not a "cruiser" by any stretch of the imagination but I'm 6'4" and considering installing Helibars for some additional comfort. When I ride 100 miles+ it feels like I got shot right between the shoulderblades!!! Any feedback would be appreciated. Regardless, I'm not getting rid of my 1098 - torture rack or not.

I installed the Heli Bars on my 848 and they made the longer rides and in town traffic much more tolerable. It is amazing how much differance that little bit of height and angle can make!

Did you do the install yourself? If so, how much trouble did you have? Did you have to do any other modifications to the fairing, cables, etc.? Could you re-use the stock grips? It sounds like a good investment - do you agree?

At first, I thought they would be a pain in the ass and they sat in the box for a couple of months. When I finally decided to install, I realized that it was not very difficult at all. Basically, just unbolt all the hardware on the handlebars and move them out of the way. Then loosen up the pinch bolts and slide off the triple. Slide all the controls off the stock bars and insert the Heli Bars. Put the triple back on and tighen the bolts up a bit. Do not tighten them all the way because you will have to adjust them to ensure you have clearance. Check full left and right turn to ensure they won't hit the tank or fairing at full cock. Make sure that when you re-install all the hardware that you line up the little nipples to rest inside the small pen hole on the bars or else they won't tighten down correctly.
The kit comes with some decent instructions as well.
Yes, you can use the stock grips. No problems with the fairings or cables either.
When you get it, just go for it, as it is not as bad as you think.

Go for it!!

I installed them on my 2005 RC51 and they made a very noticeable difference!

They were also wider and with a flatter angle.

For me riding became less painful on my neck and lower back. They also offered more leverage making it a tad easier to muscle the beast around.

( Can't wait to get another Ducati )

As advised , just watch your clearances..gas tank ect.

Good luck......Sean

I didn't try the Helibars, but researched it on the various forums and the overall consensus was that the helibars offered only a little benefit for the cost on the 1098 or 848. This was confirmed to me by the number of them available for resale.

You can get about as much rise out of a Speedymoto Super Bike Top Triple Clamp and retain the adjustability. You can also combine their triple clamp and bars.

I went with their triple clamp alone which is a beautiful, lighter unit than stock and the lift was just enough.
