Heater doesn't work in 1993 Toyota Corolla. Fix?

I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla and the heat isn't working well. The temperature gauge doesn't move up very much from cold and the air coming from the vents is a little warm, but not like it should be. What could be the possible problems with the car to make the heater not work correctly? What should I check? I can provide additional details if needed. Thanks
