Heart Racing while Sleeping

My husband had his tonsils and uvula removed and his soft palette trimmed in mid March. Ever since his surgery he hasn't been able to sleep in our bed due to being awaken by his heart racing and breathing very heavy...it's almost like he stops breathing temporarily. But, when he sleeps on the couch he doesn't have this problem. It probably has something to do with the way he lays on the bed vs. the couch....has anyone heard of anything like this before???
 
Hi, it could be sleep apnea so it might be worth checking that out, or if he drinks alcohol last thing at night that could do it - or medication
