I attempted to go to the doctors on October 6th. They told me I was no longer covered. I turned 19 on September 30th. On September 23rd the healthcare law for extending the dependent age from 19 to 26 took effect. Healthnet instead when I spoke to them said they are obeying the law but not until open enrollment will I be able to sign up which is in February 2011. I have asthma and with my medication costing a large amount of money I cannot afford to get any of the medication until I get insurance. I work full time and take home about 1600 a month. I have no bills besides gas, phone, laptop, and car insurance. That leaves me about 500 a month extra so getting insurance that cost 100-150 dollars a month is no problem. What should I do? Do I get a lawyer to help? Do I just go and get insurance on my own instead of my parents?
I "aged off" after the 23rd. The law began on the 23rd but I didnt turn 19 until the 30th.
I take about 5 different medications and with insurance the cost was about 80 dollars a month.
I live in california. The insurance is through my fathers workplace. The company has more than 20 employees.
