My partner left his wife 15-months ago. They are just about to file their divorce papers. I have just bought a house and as money is becoming tight, I have asked to join his health insurance policy (him and his two kids). His ex-wife is still on their policy.
I asked him to remove her from his policy however she has kicked up a stink about how he's ruined her whole life and she has no financial future all because of him - and so he feels bad about removing her health insurance. She is also saying that because she can't afford her own health insurance she will be forced to work full time instead of part time as she does now (to work in around kids & school etc) and again that it's all his fault.
He already pays two thirds of all the kids expenses, plus 100% of their health insurance plus he pays over what he is required to pay for child support. I also told him that she can get a policy for as little as $12/week and still have decent coverage (he didn't have an answer for that one).
Am I being unreasonable in asking him to cut ties with his ex-wife and include me on his insurance policy instead of her?
