headset microphone not detected?

New member
(using vista home edition). i bought a philips headset with mic. it plugs in thru the 2 jacks at the front. the headset working ok, but it appears that the laptop isn't detecting the mic. have tried all the obvious, inc uninstall/reinstalling the soundcard. can anyone help pls??
thanks. but it is acknowledging the headset part, but not the microphone. it is the second one i have had, both doing the same, thats why i thought it was a settings issue with the laptop
 
check in your device manager that the phillips microphone is listed , if it is double click and update the drivers , but if not , the microphone may be faulty ,
if it does show to be correctly installed , right click the speaker icon on the righthand side of your taskbar and when the list appears click on recording devices,
a list of microphone recording devices will appear , click the phillips microphone then set default ,
you should now be able to use the microphone ,
