Head Gasket damage, Mazda B3000?

I am looking at a 99 Mazda pick up truck 4x4 with 124000 miles.

First off are Mazda trucks any good? I have not seen many of them

The guy says it has a new head gasket. to me this means the truck has had problems. What damage could have been caused when the head gasket blew? What should I watch out for
