HDMI not working on Sony Wega CRT?

This Sony KV-30HS420 is not recognizing input from my new PS3.

It gets the standard A/V video input (red/white audo, yellow video) but when I switch to HDMI output on the PS3, the TV doesn't show a picture or produce sound.

I'm stumped as to what's going on here. Any advice?

Edit: yes, there is an HDMI cable plugged into the PS3. I'm not trying to get HD output from a component video cable.
 
When turning on the PS3, hold the power on touch button for 10 seconds. It'll reset to the default settings, then you should be able to at least see your screen.

Red/Yellow/White Composite cables don't give you HDMI, broseph.
 
I'm not sure. The TV supposedly accepts 720p and 1080i.

The PS3 is set to 480i right now because it's on component video...

When I set it to HD video (a different input on the TV), the screen naturally goes black. Then when I change the TV's input to HD, the screen is still black. So I have to go back to component video on the TV and wait for the PS3 to return to component video after 30 seconds.
