HDD Camcorder or Flash?

Im looking to buy a camcorder.

I will be filming family events, vacations and things like that. I may do a little editing like add menus or titles or something like that but I plan to burn my movies to dvd's and watch most of the time. And If I burn the movie to DVD is one format better in terms of quality than the or will it be about the same since at the end I will be burning to dvd. Also if someone knows how good are the flash camcorders?

One positive of Flash is that it doesn't use moving parts, whereas a hard drive can fail mechanically.
