HD DVD question

Should the image be grainy? I was watching Apollo 13 and the white was especially grainy. I assume it's cause it's and older movie? The darks were all amazing, but I'm disappointed with the lighter images. Is this normal or is something wrong with my TV/player?

It can depend on many factors including what the source was originally filmed with.

Yeah, I'm just paranoid. Don't like spending money if I'm not going to get top grade stuff. (And yes, I know my TV isnt top of the line, but I compared it side by side to a Sony of the same type and the differences were hardly noticeable)

Component for the 360, HDMI for the PS3. can't wait for 360 HDMI cable, but it looks great even with component.

Probably the movie. Talladega Nights Blu-Ray doesn't look too great but Superman Returns does. I'm using HDMI.

probably the transfer, some older movies may not be nearly as clear as the newer ones, like superman returns for example. thats just my guess

it's just the transfer, watch training day, corpse bride, ant bully, MI3 they are some of the better ones.

Grain will definately be evident in older movies unless they take the time in the telecine process to fix it

Do you have the audio hooked up via the TV speakers or do you have a receiver/surround sound. I'm trying to find a good receiver with HDMI support and good (they don't need to be great) speakers for about $500 if that's possible.

You can get Onkyo's HTIB for under $500. It's going to be hard to get a good receiver + speakers + sub under $500 separately, if not impossible.
