HD Camcorder for iMac PowerPC G5, Mac OS X 10.4.9?

I'm interested in the Canon HG10, and am pretty partial to Canon. But I read that this camcorder needs an intel-Mac? Is that true? Should I upgrade my computer to use this great camcorder?
Any other recs or advice? Thank you!
