Haynes manuals.

I've decided to do as much of the maintenence on my ride as I can since I do not trust the service dept of my local stealership. In my search for information I ordered a Haynes Service and Repair manual for Suzuki intruder, Marauder, Volusia, and Boulevard '85 to 06'. It seems like a good manual. I'm actually looking forward to checking/adjusting my own valves soon and saving the $185.00 that I would have been giving them to do it. I just thought I would post this for any newbies like me who need good manuals and info. The manual # is 2618, knowing this makes it easier to order.

The Haynes manual is a pretty good one, with only a few minor errors, so it is a great investment.

Currious about your valve adjustment though- why are you looking forward to it? Are they tapping? I've had three of these bikes, and none of them needed a valve adjustment before 20,000 miles.

I think its mostly just paranoia. I'm hoping this will just be a check and there won't be any need for adjustment. It will ease my mind just to know that the bike is ready for this coming riding season. I can hear a little tapping when I first start the bike, I'm not sure if this is normal. I could just need an oil change, I will change it before the valve check to be sure.

It is not paranoia, it's called preventive maintenance. Never really a bad idea, as long as you don't make a problem that wasn't there before!

I purchased the Factory VS 800 Service
manual for 80 bucks and unhappy with the Lack of Info. It does not even show how to remove the basic items for general service. Vague at best. I have had all factory service manual for all my motor vehicles and they get down to, how to remove the ash tray...in detail.
If I would have known I would have just bought a Haynes or a Clymer manual for $30.

As the saying goes, "hindsight is 20/20". I have used haynes manuals regularly and rarely have i found any complaints about them aside from some minor details. Rarely do they assume prior knowledge and usually refer you to the right chapter to do any preliminary work.
