Having trouble with writing a book?

So I've finished a really just basic version of my book and realized I need more to the story. I'm having trouble because my book right now is only 20,000 words (80pages). I understand that having a novella published is hard but I'm not sure if adding more content to the plot will ruin the story.

Any suggestions?
Also there will be more pages than whats posted but for no until I know deep down I can't add 40k+ words in there without adding more to the plot.
 
Depends on how your story is. Adding to the plot sometimes makes it seem more real and original though. Try adding more detail maybe or more twists, to keep the story going. Good luck :)
