having to go to court and my rights as a mother?

okay i was with my boyfriend for 4 years found out i was preagnant and he was doing drugs really bad ones taking our money to buy them, he left me 6 months pregnant, never called or asked about the baby. when it was comming around to her getting here i called him and was trying to work things out and start over for our baby, he did come to the birth and has come around some what, he tells me that he wants to take her alone without me to bond with her i just had her on 11-11-10 shes only weeks old, he also tells me how he wants to take her with his new girlfriend so they all can bond without me, his words. i told him i dont want that shes too young and she cant be away from me just yet. that we need to work on our family me him and our baby, one minute hes fine with it and he likes the plan we have now, building trust then we will see. he has changed his mind he now wants to go to court and see what his rights are, he wants to be able to take her when he wants whenever, he is young has a drug and drinking history i have never met his new girlfriend and what i know of her isnt good. what can i do about this to make sure he cant take my child wheneverr he feels like it and bring her around whoever. please anyone help me im so scared he wont do a good job he has never had to take care of anyone and cant ever take care of himself. that he will do drugs around her or pawn her off on his girlfriend. this baby is everything to me i had to go through so much being alone through my pregnancy him being to scared for this and now wanting it. please help me!!!!
