Having to go thru withdrawals because of doctors/pharmacies

Hi all,

I'm continually having to go thru withdrawals because of errors my doctor makes, refill requests he doesn't repond to, or pharmacy problems- like today- nobody has the med I need (Fentanyl patch 75mg)

It just irks me to no end. Why is there no law to hold these doctors and pharmacies accountable? They can put you on very strong drugs and just stop all of a sudden or not fill them when you need them out of negligence and there is absolutely NO RECOURSE for the patient!

Do any of you have any ideas on workable solutions? One of my problems is that I cannot drive any more and my driving company will not make stops for dropping off prescriptions or anything but doctor's appoitments. Family members aren't much help either.
:dizzy: I haTe this.
And- I have high suspicions that the deterioration of my heart and need for heart surgery may have been in part because I had so many doctors just discontinue my care without any notice or supply of meds. They just didn't want me as a patient because I have so many rare conditions. Poor them-

are you only seeing your primary doc for this bunch of conditions(believe me i am in the very same type of situation with all my crap too) or an actual pain management facilty? believe me going thru an actual pain management type of situation, REALLY IS so very different when it just comes to getting your meds rxes on time(all they DO is manage pain and HAVE TO get any patients rxes out on time or have you pick them up and are ready when needed.). as far as ANY actual pharm goes? i had this very same problem when i was started on oxycontin with them never always having what I was going to need for my next 28 day Rx cycle thru my PM? so what i was told to actually do by the head pharm was to just simply call in like a week ahead of when my rx was going to be due to make certain that MY med was ordered and would BE THERE when I needed it to be. once we did this for just a few months when i was finally stabilized on my current dose, they just started to automatically order it for me since it was then a 'regular' thing and i no longer had to call and remind them of it anymore.

if you are not already IN any PM type of situation i would very HIGHLY recommend it to you. besides the Rx thing, they also have sooo many other really solid modalities availiable to any given patient that help with YOUR particular types of pain. for all my ongoing pain nightmares, it truely was the very BEST thing i could have done for myself and my many different pain generators too. just some suggestions that may help alot like they did me. good luck and i do hope you seek out a good PM doc/facility. it just IS highly geared towards helping patients with their pain and removes alot of the types of crappy hassle you encounter with just about any other type of treating doc too. please let me know how things are going, FB

Thanks for commenting my fellow sufferers- Unfortunately, I've done everything I humanly can- calls- yes, about 2 dozen last withdrawal time- to both "the doctor or his nurse/staff" (they are rarely available and when they are most often do not follow thru- I'm trying to give the guy some grace because he just set up a new practice, but StIll-! :() And the pharmacy- too- so many calls, every time.

I am not under the care of a Pain Specialist- the last one I saw was some guy who could just barely speak English; he asked me 3 questions, didn't like my answers and told me I didn't need a pain specialist - I needed a Neurologist- he refused to refill my meds even though I'd been terminated by my previous MD who had me on 2 strong opiates and another pain med with barbituites in it. He really just didn't care! And most of the doctors I have seen- (I have 36 list on my health summary in the last 2 years do not wan to help me because my conditions are rare and they don't know how to treat them) I also have just the state provided insurance- so I generally don't get the best of doctors.

The pain doc was right in that I needed a Neurologist in my own state- but I also have 2 pgs of diagnoses involving several types of pain.

The thing that gets me- really!- is when a doctor puts you on a med and then isn't half as responsible as he expects YoU to be- in managing your dosages- to simply disreguard your patient because you're busy is not ok in my book! I know for a facT that the sudden withdrawals are damaging and dangerous, but it happens over and over. That's why I have been trying to get off as much of my meds as I can- I found out thru doing this that my seizures were primarily- worsened by meds I had been prescribed that I am obviously alergic to, but none of my doctors caught that. It's easier- when you don't have the knowledge about rare conditions to pigeon hole someone like me- who has a history of a mental condition as well as the physical ones.

Sometimes I just wonder if there aren't any patient rights- for real. I don't mean ones that never really make a difference- but ones that actually work on the part of the patient. (btw. I finally did get my Fentanyl patches, I only had to go thru a day without one- it has been a wholE lot worse! And although I don't have a pain specialist, I do have the Neurologist in my state at least.) My Neurosurgeon- and the best of my Geneticists are out of state- too bad for me- as they are the only ones who really have a clue as to treatment for me.

My seizure condition- (which I never had until my open heart surgery btw)- is a difficulty for me with doctors. People get freaky friday on you if you have seizures and they are afraid to treat you, change any meds, ect.

I really just needed a venting spot- I guess. I mean, I am very lucky to even Have an MD. All the ones in my area refuse to treat me for one reason or another, and the one I have- even tho he makes mistakes- is trying to be on my side. So, life goes on ~
