Having problems with my 2002 Dodge Stratus SE.?

Tried to put the car into drive from reverse and then it would not catch gear. It eventually did though, but I had problems later in the day. Whenever I decelerated and hit 25mph the car lurched, like I hit a log in the road. The lurch happened whether or not I was using the brakes or coasting, and always happened at the same speed. No idea what is wrong, or if the problems are related. If you have any idea what the problem is, and how much it would cost to fix please let me know. Also, if the problem needs to be fixed at a mechanic, or can be done at home.
 
you may have hit something and broke the shift mechanism. is the transmission maintenanced? new filter and fluids? take it to a tranny shop for an estimate then get a second opinion if need be!
