Having problems drilling into interior wall- Do you have any tips i could

follow to put a curtain rail up? My husband has made several attempts using a cordless drill to drill into the wall. one hole seems to be ok but the other there is only so far it will go. We have fully recharged the drill, got smaller wall plugs, bought a masonry drill bit- all to no avail. Our flat is pretty old but we managed to put up 2 of the exact curtain rails in our bedroom and need to get the nursery sorted ASAP as it is too bright without curtains and the existing blind does not block out light. Is there anything left to try? we are a our wits end and have approx 3 weeks to go until baby appears. Any help greatly appreciated . Thanks

They sell curtain rods with strong springs inside them which you can extend on the inside of the window casing, if you have an inside piece of wall to hold it. That would require no screws. Other than that, if you could drill one hole, that means that possibly, if you move about 6" one way or the other from the problem area, you may find the wall is able to be drilled (probably some support behind the problem area is stopping the drill), and you can adjust the rod a little.
