Having a debate in English about footballers being paid too much...?

I'm arguing that yes, they are paid too much, and have made the point about Doctors and firefighters and the likes being paid much less, for doing much more important jobs and working harder. Opposition has argued that some footballers have known poverty, and worked hard to get where they are.

What can I say to counter this??
