Have you heard of Gertrude Bell (active for the British during WW I )?

I am currently reading a biography of her called "the Desert Queen". She spent a lot of time in the Middle East in the early part of the 20th century and supposedly influenced the future politics of the area, as well as worked with Laurence of Arabia.

I was just wondering if this personality is actually well known, or wondering if the book is exaggerating a bit....
