Have you had more success with Gentoo, Arch Linux, or Slackware ?

I am looking to start a completely customized distro for my (powerful) netbook, and I would like to know which one you have had the most success with . I want something fast and stable, and pleasing to the eye .
LOL forget Gentoo, too much compiling for my tastes . >.>
