Have you ever wrote to an author of a book and they responded?

I have read many books about a person's personal journey about their cancer experiences and all have written me back. I also wrote to some other writers of inspirational books and have gotten a response from them too. Have you wrote to authors of books and have they responded to you?

I have written to about a half dozen and got a response from everyone that I have sent an e-mail to, is that normal?
 
Nah, I've never wrote an author a letter.
But, were these authors renowned and popular? If they're perpetually being bombarded with fan mail, they aren't really going to have the time to respond.
