That happened to me today as I stepped foot inside urban outfitters. When I heard the alarm go off I paused for a few seconds in shock and then brushed it off as a false alarm as I walked inside the store. But this one saleswoman who saw this slowly sneaked up to me as I was walking and when there was no one close by she came to me and said before I leave they need to check to make sure nothing gets stolen. I told her I just walked in the store. She just repeated herself and said they going to check in order to make sure no body steals anything. I was like wtf and said ok, trying not to make an issue out of it. But I felt very uncomfortable as I browsed the store and felt like I was being watched. I just wanted to get out of the store, so I made my way around the store and toward the exit, the alarm went off as I walked out. I was out of the store going to the parking lot when a guy yelled "ma'am!." I stopped and went back inside the store. He told me to go through the security gates again and they went off again. I did not buy anything and had no bag. A different sales person came and said if I was the same person who said the alarm when coming in. I said yes. Then she asked about my sweater jacket and where I purchased it from. I was like what you mean. And she said sometimes there is tags still attached to clothing items but she told me I'm fine and can go. I left feeling very humiliated and distressed by the experience of having being stopped twice like you're some thief. Perhaps the most disturbing is how that sales person slowly crept up behind me the moment I walked in the store and said that comment to me as if I am going to shoplift just because the alarm went off when I came in. I didn't receive an apology from any one. Just a "you're fine." When I took off my jacket I noticed a white tag inside that said "remove after purchase" which I cut. Apparently the clerk failed to remove this after buying it and I wasn't aware of this sewn in magnetic strip. I've entered other stores and the alarms didn't go off, so I never had this happen to me before. This is the first time ever the alarm went off as I walked in and out of a store. And I was so shocked and upset as I left urban outfitters. I can't believe how they get all over you like that, especially like if you did nothing but enter the store. I'm in my early 20s but can pass as a teenager. I know I will never want to shop at that store again and I warn all others to stay away from urban outfitters store. I really want to know, were any of my rights infringed upon? Could any of the sales persons get away with their said actions? Should I have handled it in a different way?
