Have you ever noticed?

Even though I scrape the leftovers form the road.....I usually wear jeans, boots, helmet/goggles and a t-shirt. Thats the least Ill wear. There is a leather jacket in the saddle bags at all times. I toss it on when its tolerable as far as heat goes.

I cant tell you guys how many roadrashed non clothes wearing folks Ive taken care of. THere is just as many broken slightly roadrashed leather wearers that end up with cut up leathers.

I have noticed a couple of things in my 14 years as a medic......Alcohol and stupidity are the biggest reasons by far that bikers get FUBAR. I know alot of them have been messed up by cagers not looking or not seeing you, but the majority of injuries are from the former.

I went on a little tangent there...sorry.

Ride safe boys and girls.....Be smart. Or some medic will "make you nekked".

i wear a full face, motorcycle sunglasses and i STILL get crap in my eyes!
i don't know how people think that's comfortable...
i'd rather sweat in my leather or mesh jacket and jeans and boots...

i'd like to be able to chew my own food and wipe my bum with my own fingers

I wear a full face helmet & fieldshear jacket in weather under 80 degrees. Over 80 degrees I wear a 3/4helmet with face shield, t-shirt & leather vest just because I get too hot in the jacket. I always wear jeans, riding boots and gloves.

Seeing girls riding two-up on the back of little crotch rockets with no sissy bar just looks like trouble to me.

I don't want to slam anybody. But typically guys who ride cruisers are "typically" alittle more mature and overall better riders. I see crotch rocket riders all the time taking risks, weaving, wheelies, 100+ mph in traffic. Their usually teenagers or early 20's and they have no business with another person on the back of their bikes.

Last summer coming through the downtown connnector in Atlanta a gang of rockets blew my doors off (I was in a car at the time) and what I saw next I still can't believe. They slowed down to 70mph and one of the guys jumped off his bike while keeping both hands on the bars and was sliding on his feet next to his bike in traffic going 70mph. It was insane. He did it for maybe 10seconds. (I guess I should move this reply to the rant thread! Sorry)

That exact reason is why I do not group ride where I live. I have crotch rockets blast past me often. Have I taken risks before? Yeah but by myself away from a lot of people. Stick someone on the back of my bike and I drive like a grandma.

At the riding school they showed many videos where people rode without proper gear and its consequences. I'm fully geared up when I ride:

  • Full face helmet (Shoei RF 1000)
  • Armored textile jacket (Joe Rocket) or leather rider's jacket
  • Riding gloves
  • Heavy duty jeans (usually Wranglers) with or without chaps
  • Steel toe boots (not that they're safer just don't have proper boots for riding)
I was in Florida last week and saw many riders in t-shirts and shorts without helmets especially in Orlando and Daytona Beach. I kind of understand, it's terribly hot down there and there are hotter places but it's too risky for me.

Sweat dries up and don't want any more scars on me.

Just letting you know Elvis that the jeans alone do absolutely nothing. I wrecked doing like 15mph on a slick paved asphalt surface and that slick pavement ripped the jeans like it was a cheese grater. I understand it is better than shorts or slacks but just wanted to let you know it's not much better. Chaps or armour are the way to go.

i dunno about that... around here the cruiser riders are just as dangerous...
i'm a relatively new rider... i only have 13,700 miles under my belt

i've seen only 2 stunters out of all the sport bike riders...
one was a wheelie in traffic... the guy had skill... kept his distance from the car ahead like normal traffic and kept pace... still risky i know...

the other was a total squid with a passenger that kept going in the opposite lane and popping multiple wheelies beside a truck during rush hour on a two lane highway...
then cutting off the car behind the truck... i kept far far back... the cars wheele locked up... anyhow.. this happened at least 8 times...

i've seen more stupidity on cruiser riders than sport bikes in town though...

i only wear jeans as well... chaps... won't go there and i did buy a pair of overpants, but i don't use them often as they're way too hot...

i think i should go with some ICON pants or something...

Don't get me wrong Womper, I also wear jeans and slacks. Just telling all that it really only helps me with the debris that hits you doing high speeds. Sometimes the sand in the road or if there's a dump truck in front of me, the debris flying back stings like a mother. Pants, slacks or some sort of covering helps with that.

In Florida I've also seen my fair share of idiots on motorcycles that are on the path to death (cutting vehicles off, driving erratically, tailgating, etc.) but I've seen far more sport bikes doing the 'circus' show on the road. I'm sure it just seems like sport bikes are the majority of crazy drivers because you seem to remember the wheelies and speeding but I bet if you really sat down and logged every time you saw a motorcyclist do something crazy it wouldn't be slanted to one type of bike or the other.

Most of the girls on the back of any bike are hot, of course there are exceptions. As far as gear, its full face (will sometimes take the shield off and wear goggles, still protecting my chin) Always boots as thats all I own, either my combat boots if I'm on my way to work or one of my many pairs of oil/slip resistant over the ankle thick soled boots, blue jeans and at min a shirt. Its too hot and muggy for my leather jacket even with the vents open right now, just makes me tired, cranky and slow to react, safer in a t-shirt simply because I'm less likely to wreck if I can react to a situation quickly. I wear the jacket when ever the weather allows though.
