Like a timed debate in a room with judges and rebuttals/arguments? I did and i enjoyed it alot.
I was in a classroom debate, and the question was "Should gay marriage be legalized in every state?". I was on the affirmative, which meant that i had to argue that gay marriage should be legalized. Now this is a summer program and i'm a high schooler. Well since i'm a lesbian, i felt that this was a more personal issue to me than just a classroom debate, so i did ALOT of research and took notes for it. Well on debate day, i sat down, and my team really didn't care about the topic, so i was the only one speaking for my team. Let's just say i SLAMMED the other team, and the rest of the class (excluding the debaters) took a vote to show who won. My team ended up winning 5 to 3. I was so happy and estatic because this was more than a debate to me. I actually found out i'm a good debater, because i had to debate again that week on immigration and school uniforms. I'm thinking of joining a debate team at my high school next year.
So have you ever had a formal debate about LGBT topics? If so, what was that topic, which side were you on, and who won? I really want to hear some stories.
