My friend and I have been regular Godiva customers for years now. We've never had any problems there before. In the years we've gone there, we've been asked for photo ID once- to verify identity when using a credit/debit card.
Last night, however, we went in to a store to redeem our free pieces of chocolate for the month. We were asked if we were 18 and then required to show photo I.D. We assumed it was because people were abusing the system and they needed to make sure our IDs matched the names on the accounts.
However, the man checked our IDs to verify that we were each over the age of eighteen. Had we been under, we would have not been allowed to make any purchase without parental consent. We were there to get cranberry truffles- not any of the liqueur ones. We had to show ID or have parental consent to buy CHOCOLATE.
