Maybe....

There is still a skill to being a great photographer. To get into this business good enough will not cut it. On top of it you have to be a digital guru and know color management.

Even in the film days photographers would over shoot just to cover them self. Most all would bracket on top of that. I don't see no harm in that. Digital makes it more addictive, and it ads to more editing and work-flow after the shoot.

We just have to get over the good enough mind set and photography will be all right.

As artist we our self are our biggest enemy. Artist need to understand that there is a value we create. We have a visual product worth wile compensation.

people these days now depend on the camera instead of knowing about the basics. not only that but look at how people think they can just ask a friend for a picture they like instead of paying the person, not realizing how much time and effort it took to get that image.

people also are taking way to many pictures-- ever hear of composition instead of "getting lucky"

Digital photography has democratized the issue, now anyone can have one cam or more. But there are still those who care for Photography, and digitals have improved things: We can go manual, and find out new aspects that we didn't know about our camera. Experiment leads to better technique, and I think this is good.
I don't have a pessimistic point of view, but just the contrary.
