Have some leftists lost their mind? How can we possibly afford Nationalized Health Care?

The taxpayers can't afford it. The United States government is nearly bankrupt with a national debt now approaching the entire annual GDP of the nation and with a projected deficit of over $1 trillion/yr for at least a decade to come. The estimated cost of Nationalized Health Care would be well over $2 trillion in additional taxation which either the People must pay with increased taxes or the government would have to support with deficit spending which would lead to the collapse of the dollar and national bankruptcy.

The United States government has a historical record of fundamental failure related to every social welfare program it has created. Prime examples are Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid which are facing financial bankruptcy in the future which will dictate major reductions in benefits and/or dramatic increases in taxation to survive. There is no reason to believe that Nationalized Health Care by the US government would not also result in a reduction in health care benefits and increased taxation to survive.

Monopolies are always detrimental to the People and a government monopoly which is, by law, exempt from "unfair business practices" is the worst possible type of monopoly.
