I'm a sophomore in college and I'm very conflicted on how to decide my major. My parents wanted me to be a doctor, but I don't think that's going to happen anymore. They also would have liked me to become an engineer or computer programmer because they value financial stability so much. To that point, I agree the security is nice... but I just don't like those subjects at all. I want to say that I've tried an adequate amount of those subjects to just say that I'm bad at them and I hate the content that it's not worth toiling through. My parents always tell me that people rarely like the area of study and I should just accept it to get into jobs.
I currently go to a liberal arts school and it's becoming increasingly hard to argue how good my education is (I go to a top 20 liberal arts school) in the face of all these new jobs that require hard science and math skills. I took AP Biology in high school and absolutely loathed it... I took CS 101 my freshmen year and had to drop it since it was so adversely affecting my sleep schedule... I took CHEM 129 and just had an awful time in lab (I would never know what to do without the help of a professor). If I'm having such trouble in these introductory science classes, is it safe to say that I would never have succeeded with math and science courses. They make me miserable...but yet I can't let go of the fact that I feel less intelligent as a person and leaves me wondering if I tried hard enough.
Now, I'm going through Calc 1 and I'm not having the easiest time either. If I strike you as not a bright person... let me say that my strengths have always been humanities and social sciences. I thought I would have tried a compromise between social science and math with economics... what do you guys think?
