I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 3800 V6 w/no supercharger, the car has 97000 miles and we have never had a major problem with it. Today the SES light came on, but it ran fine, took it to autozone and the code checked it was a P-0102 which he said was a MAP or MAF sensor or VAF sensor condition, the car drove home fine, however when my wife went to leave later she started the car and everytime she went to give it acted like it wanted to die. So i took the intake apart checked for leaks, made sure it was sealed, everything seems fine i drove it after she experienced this and it drove fine until i went about a block then it proceeded to die and would not start again i had to push it to the side of the road and again checked everything after a few mins i started it and drove fine till about halfway home, the idle became jumpy and it died again, after about 15 mikns of this i finally got it home, i let it sit for about 15 mins and proceeded to drive it our shop to drop it off, but i figured i would see if anyone out there has experienced this problem so that i may avoid paying a mechanic $100 to diagnose it, it would b very appreciated. one more thing i noticed is that a black sensor that said manifold pressure on it was making a weird spinning noise everytime we would shut the car off, this seems to be the MAP sensor so im wondering if this is my problem, would i b better off taking the car to the shop or chancing and replacing the map sensor myself??? anyones input will be highly appreciated... thanks!!
