We have a fresh water tank. We are having an algae issue, the placostimous can't keep up.The green slime is on the glass and tank decorations

get an alge eater, it's a fish that eats it and you can prob get them at any pet store/wal-mart.

If you have a light on it, which you probably do... try turning it on as little as possible... the fish don't need it to be happy, they will know day from night from any other light in the room.

Also get something to scrub the majority of the algae off, there are various types of brushes that work great-- Just make sure you get a glass one for a glass tank, or one made for plastic tanks if the tank is plastic, otherwise you could make it less pretty.

Consider also changing the filter pad, as algae also tends to grow on it, and it will just help seed more algae.

Your algae eaters are probably too old, they eat much less frequently as they get older, just get some new, younger ones.

Get a second plecostimous or maybe three if they are small. You can also get snails, although they multiply rapidly. You can buy a long handled algae scraper to clean the walls. Ask the people at your fish store.
