...sitting a day or more.? We can prime the carbs with starter fluid and it starts and runs good. Also, it is now doing something odd when out on the water. If you are at full throttle for a bit, it will just vut out on you and shut down too. You have to reprime with starter fluid also in that case. What do you think could be the cause? Fuel pump? Fuel Filter? Something else?
 
I'd check something in the fuel system it sounds to me like your not getting enough fuel into the motor. Check the filter to make sure its clear and check the pump. If both are fine and it only starts with starter fluid it mean that it has low compression which is a sign of motor damage.
 
another thing that could make it do that is you are getting air in the gas line.check all your hoses to make sure they are all tight.
