Guys, car sat for a year. Res was low. Added fluid, but still no pwr steering. So figured pump, even though not making noise. Changed out pump, and still, no pwr steering. HOWEVER, I am having fluid spit back into reservoir and flow out of it. Forces fluid OUT of the reservoir. Even with res on low mark, will still spit fluid up and out of reservoir.
OK, will do...I have the car up on a lift, and not noticing any fluid leaks from any hoses, return or pressure. The only place there is fluid is under the reservoir from it being pushed out, and was like that when I first took possession of car. I bought car from guy, daughter went to school. left it home. Been sitting year. So, prety sure res was low because of fluid being pushed out, and not actually leaking from a hose. Will double and triple check hoses though.....thank you very much for reply
OK, checked and rechecked all lines, and actually tightened up all hose clamps just to be on safe side. None were loose, just put a little extra umph on them. Problem is the same. Here is some more info I just gathered. I noticed when car was OFF, reservoir is on bottom mark, but when car is running, immediately jumps up to above the full mark. When you turn the wheel, you can see fluid bouncing/splashin around in reservoir. As SOON as you turn car off, flui level drops to bottom line.
Oh, also...BEFORE this last time, the steering effort was just hard. The pump did NOT make ANY noise. Actually pretty smooth, no sounds coming from the PS Pump. This last time, when i was checking hoses, I actually pulled the reservoir off, to check for small cracks/leaks. So, put reservoir back on, hook lines up, add fluid, and guess what? NOW, the pump makes noise!!! It is straining like it is empty/no fluid in it...I think everyone has heard a PS pump whine before with no fluid in it...well, NOW it is making that noise. Again, before, it made NO noise, just steering effort was very hard. Now, effort is hard AND we have noise from pump.
