NIGHT terrors and Yes. Thank good ness they only lasted a few months. Turn the lights on, a tv cartoon, sing songs, ring a bell..get their attention what ever way you can. I usually wound up picking him up and walking around with him rubbing his back, some nights daddy would too. The look on his face was always terrifying. Scared me. Hang in there. Shouldn't last too long. If it does check with your pedi.
Calm them down and then help them get back to sleep. HUGS.

yes, it may be night terrors. it can be very frightening but it does pass. It last with my 3 year for a couple of weeks. My daughter would sit up and honestly wouldn't recognize her and it was impossible to wake her up. She would fall back asleep on her own and she would be ok.

It use to scare me to death.

First of all how old is the child? If the child is under one it is possible it is gas pains. Otherwise It sounds like your child is having a night terror. Night terrors dont usually afflict all children, but its when you have a nightmare but your not in rem sleep when you usually have dreams. You are in the deeper state of sleep. My brother had night terrors and he would run around in circles. My children have also had night terrors where they wouldnt wake up and just screamed or cried and shook, the only thing you can do is hold them close rock them and whisper in their ear. Consult your pediatrician. Also please check out the site below.
