Hi everyone. About 3 months ago when the pollen was awful, I worked out in my yard. Before then, I could still smell and taste but since then, I have not been able to smell nor taste anything UNLESS it is very strong. When I was a child, I was allergic to my own shadow but I improved as I got older and didn't have any problems with it. But now I'm wondering if it has come back. I do have an indoor cat and occasionally throughout the day, I will sneeze for no reason that I can see and my nose stays partially closed up all the time. I've put off going to the doctor because I am very sensitive to drugs. If I take the normal dosage of almost anything, I get so drugged up, I walk around like a zorabie. Plus, I don't want to get rid of my cat. She's the best one we've ever had. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

It sounRAB like nasal congestion is the major issue for you? There are options other than pills!

The simplest thing you could do right now is go to the drugstore, buy a neti pot and wash out your sinuses with saline solution. (Don't knock it 'till you've tried it.) Just read the package directions carefully before you begin.

I do suggest you see a doctor, though, preferably an allergist. He could prescribe a steroid or antihistamine nasal spray, they rarely have any systemic side effects at all. (Decongestant nasal sprays can cause dependency, the prescription ones generally don't.)

He could also test you to find out exactly what you are allergic to, so it's easier to avoid it.
