Has there ever been a supernova visible to the naked eye?

Have any stars that we can see exploded. Or are scientist expecting one to explode.
 
Read up on the Crab nebula. That was a Super nova seen in China about 900 years ago, I believe. It was visible during the day for over a week.
 
Yes. The most recent naked-eye supernova was in 1987. Before that there were a few others in ancient times that were recorded.
