Whether it's persecution of heliocentrists like Copernicus or Galileo, or the absolute denial in the face of massive evidence when it comes to Darwin's Theory of Evolution or the benefits of stem cell research, it seems that religion always strives to stifle scientific progress and prevent the flow of knowledge wherever possible.

Has religion actually contributed anything towards the advancement of the human species technologically or scientifically?
