Whatever the causes, global temperatures have been above average for more than 20 years now.

But we have now had around a week of particularly cold weather in the US.

Does this mean that global, whatever its cause, has mysteriously disappeared? How?

Actually no, global warming has not disappeared and never will until we humans smarten up. You see, global warming is pretty much acting like a big thermos right now. (The sun's rays come in, but not much can go back out, due to the thick layer around the earth caused by pollution, excess Co2, all that bad stuff.) Therefore, making it warmer in the summer but colder in the winter because the cold can't get out. By the way, It's cold here in Canada too, and no, we don't live in igloos.

Your argument, virtually as you put it is:

"Global temperatures have been above average for more than 20 years now. But we have now had around a week of particularly cold weather in the US. Does this mean global warming has disappeared?"

Lol.

I think you misunderstand the concept of global warming. It is the accumulation of green house gases in the atmosphere which causes the suns rays to be trapped under the atmosphere and melt the polar ice caps causing climate change. Key words are climate change. Areas which usually received warm weather would now receive cold weather and climate trends would become unpredictable as they are slowly becoming now. To answer your question, no global warming has by no means dissapeared we are in fact beginning to see more signs of it. Keep in mind that its not that uncommon to go through a cold fron and have cool weather for a short period of time especially is you live near the coast and suffer the affects of El-nino.
