Oh yes, quitting smoking alone WILL cause break outs AT FIRST. It is your body getting rid of all the built up toxins from the cigarettes. (and the stress of quitting probably doesn't help either)
The good news is,the skin is excellent at repairing itself. After a while, your skin will look so much better then it ever did while you were smoking.
They are just now finding out that smoking is linked to acne, but in general,it is just really bad for your skin.

I quit two years ago.Had bad break outs at first too.Now my skin looks amazing! My pores look smaller,my skin more toned, and my acne has improved drastically,I hardly ever break out anymore, and when I do they are tiny and easily managed.
Good luck, hope you stick with it! I know it's hard!

Thanks alot for the advice. The acne I have is on my upper thighs from sweating when I work out and from wearing long pants when it's hot weather not on my face. It does seem to work but a large area of skin to cover with medication.

I was just prescribed this for acne on the top of my legs. I"m supposed to put it on once a day. I'm wondering if I should be using this at night or during the day.

If anyone has usec this I'd like to hear your suggestions. Thanks

HI,I have used it.It works best when used with Benzoyl Peroxide because the BP keeps you from developing resistance to the Clindamycin which is a topical antibiotic.
It worked well for me for a while,I hope it helps you.:)

When it Rains,
Thanks for responding. Do you mean to use BP to clean my skin and then apply the antibiotic? What I have been doing is using Nutrogeana with Salcyltic acid and then drying off and putting on the Clindamycin.

Hi, I just wanted to do an update just in case anyone was doing the same sort of treatment.

The doctor prescribed me antibiotics (ampicillin) and topical solutions of erthromycin and clindamycin. It has been just over a month now, and I haven't had any major breakouts. I am very happy with the results since no new acne means no new scars. I haven't seen improvement in the scars, however. But I also started using lemon juice in the middle of the day. So I'll see how that works.

One the ziana clindamycin website, it does say not to use with erthromycin. But since this is how my derm recommended, I just stuck with it. I did get a rash on my stomach in the 2nd week, but I just decreased my ampicillin dosage to 1 pill a day. and then it eventually went away.

I also took probiotics once a day because I wasn't having regular bowel movements. This has helped.

Along with that I take multivitamins, fish oil, use an oil of olay sensitive skin foaming cleanser in the morning. The derm still recommended me to do this same procedure for 2 more months, and then we'll see from there. I'm going to stick with it, but I am not too sure about how long I should be taking antibiotics. But he did decrease my dosage to one pill a day now.
Good luck to anyone with acne or using these products. You must have hope and be strong.

Salicylic acid is fine too.It helps the skin to absorb acne meRAB better. The Bp keeps you from building a resistance to it (clindamycin) though. It dosen't matter when you use the Bp.It doesn't have to be at the same time.

Using a clenser called Hibiclens can help - it is gental to the skin (doctors and nurses often wash their hanRAB with it 50 times a day) but it is highly germicidal, kills the bacteria that cause acne.

Hi,
my dermatologist prescribed me both zina clindamycin gel and erythromycin topical solution. but on the zina website, it says not to use both of them together. What do I do??

Has anyone else been used them together?
Much help is appreciated. I believe the clindamycin is retin-a (retina).

Thats what works best for me. If you wash at night with warm water it will open your pores. Then put the med on. I have been battling acne for most of my life so trust me lol. In the morning alway make sure you splash your face with cool water after washing it off to close your pores. Also another tip i learned is when using topical meRAB at night if you change your pillow case at least every other day it will help keep your face cleaner.

so can you use that on the face? it sounRAB strong too.

I have been using the cetaphil cleanser. but it's not great, not bad. i switched to oil of olay sensitive skin foaming wash.

Akndy86~

If your dermatologist told you to take them at the same time,it must be ok.Mine has also prescribed things together that I have read really shouldn't be used together and I have never had any problems.

Perhaps the website means not to use them at the same time of the day.Perhaps one at night and one during the day?

I have used ZIANA which is clindamycin and 2.5% retin-a.
It is very mild (dermatologist told me it was the "old lady" formula),so maybe that is why you were also prescribed the erythromycin.
If you are really concerned, you could try calling your pharmacy and ask them about it.

ok thank you so much.
I will call tomorrow just to make sure. But yea I use the erythromycin in the morning and clindamycin at night. It may be so I don't get resistant to the clindamycin (I'm guessing).

I'm 23, and I stopped smoking and drinking. And I believe this threw my hormones into a crazy state, and I started getting cystic acne and acne scars...all in just a couple of months. So I hope this works, I'm glad there are people that help.
Thank You

I've been using benzaclin, prescription bp-clindamycin, for over 10 years now to keep my skin under control. works very, very well - and just last fall they finally came out with a generic so now it's cheap too.

Yeah, I use it on my face, its strong at killing germs, but its quite gental to the skin. Much less drying than soap for example

You will find Hibiclens in pharmacies. Best way to use it is wet the face, lather up a small amount, massage into the skin for 30 seconRAB, and then rinse.
