Has anyone studied or studying the Access to Higher Education - Healthcare Professions?

Hiya

I was wondering if anyone was able to give me any more information in regards to the Access to Higher education courses, in particular the Healthcare professions course?

I left school in 2005 with all Grade C and above GCES, I was unsure of what I wanted to do and have been working in an office for the last 4 years. I am now keen to pursue a career in Midwifery. I was told rather than completeing three A-levels I could study the access course part time and continue working. Which is fab as we all need the money right now.

Has anyone studied this course?? If so, I was wondering what it entails…Is it pretty simple? And what is the course layout?

I did an adult access course in science with a btec in human physiology back in 1992/1993. I qualified and went on to uni to study podiatric medicine (feet). The course is a little like GCSEs in so much as you dont have to retain the knowledge for 2yrs before taking an exam. There's a lot of coursework and then an exam. 60% coursework and 40% exam. You will have to complete a dissertation of your choosing which will count towards your final mark. 40% in all subjects is the pass mark.
 
Hi yes I studied the access fulltime. It covered sociology, psychology, human biology, maths, communications, I.T and an InterDisciplinary.

There is lot of assignments to do throughout the course and some are assessed through examinations. If you want to do midwifery then taking the course is your best option as a few women who were on the course with me have just qualified as Midwives.

Human Biology I found most interesting as you got to learn about the different body systems and each week had to write up about illness and disease that affects each part.

If you are working then part time should be fine as long as you keep up with the coursework. Good Luck
