I'm not an astronomer or anything, just a high school student, but I'm looking out the window and the moon is like a half moon but it's cut horizontally and doesn't seem to resemble any moon phase I've seen before. Am I crazy? Can someone explain to me why I am seeing a half moon but horizontally split instead of vertically ? Is this normal? All the different moon phases I've looked up have never showed a horizontally split half moon. And a few nights ago it was a crescent from the bottom as well. I thought the phases were all vertically or even marginally angled to the side for some crescents, but blatantly horizontal?
Has anyone noticed that the recent moon phases look awfully peculiar?
