Has anyone had problems with the LG 781 portable dvd or any players?

I got my wife an LG 781 portable dvd player yesterday and everything was fine. Today she was watching a movie and all of a sudden the on board power, play stop forward and reverse buttons stopped working. It works fine with the remote and we are able to bring up menu functions, but the main buttons described suddenly stopped working. Has anyone seen this? I hate to return the unit. (Tried taking the battery and plug out and other reset methods, but nothing works)
