Has anyone ever had an enlarged liver?

My husband has been hurting severely in his right abdomin. He found out after tests that his liver is enlarged. He doesn't drink, so that's not really something that we are worried about. He is going to a specialist tomorrow to get more tests ran. The doctor that originally did tests said not to worry about cancer, that certain levels were not high. His liver enzymes were a little high, but he said that some other level wasn't that would indicate cancer. I wasn't present, so if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about, that's why. I'm just repeating what my husband told me. Anyway, we are both very worried about his liver being enlarged and the pain. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them?

there can be many different reasons for a liver or any other organ to become enlarged. and you do not have to be a real drinker at all to end up with some sort of a liver condition or disease either. there could be some level of blockage within a bile duct or some other problem with his GB too? for some reason the GB will send referred pain signals to the right side instead of right where its located more onthe L side in some people? its just the way the nerves run. but a pancreas issue could also do this too. alot of different things all within that upper GI area can all kind of play a part at different times and ways that just can impact that liver too. it takes more specific labs and testing like at least obtaining an ultrasound with doppler to really just 'see' what the organ itself looks like in there, to check all bloodflow thru the area and to really look at all of the possible intrahepatic bile ducts in there too to really find out just what is involved and creating the enlargement at all?

obtaining a copy of his actual lab sheet would really be helpful here just to see what numbers were not within the norm range? and this just IS something hubby needs to do now and do with ANY other labs he gets done along with ANY real other testing results as well? always always obtain your very own copies of any and all test results, period. you really do need this stuff in your own posession for alot of really good reasons. i keep all my stuff in one expandable folder and my son who has had a liver transplant, his stuff too in another.

we both have a kidney disease that is also impacting the liver as well. while i have huge cystic development which has enlarged my liver from a condition called polycystic kidney disease that supposedly started in my kidneys like when i was born, my son recieved a mutated version of this gene which created his liver failure at only age 12. just how old is hubby and is there ANY type of actual liver or kidney type of disease history on either side of his family that you are aware of? there just are alot of different types of kidney diseases too that can also impact ones liver. these are usually the inherited type that we did not even have a clue we even had til my son got sick and i was like 40? already? not a clue that i had this at all my whole life or my sister.

right now he is doing the best thing for himself in getting the other more in depth testing done. this will be the thing that will more than likely give you the best answers here as to what is just creating the enlargement. hopefully they are doing that needed US today? it can be alot of not too overly bad things too so please keep that in mind? no one just ever really knows exactly what is going on inside there own bodies til it either presents itself in some way or it just shows itself upon getting some type of a scan for something else at times?

but DO make certain that he just starts to obtain every single copy of any labwork(including that one just done) and any other types of test results for HIS own personal records. labs can go up and down and seeing the 'trending' of them with just having them all with you so you can kind of see things a bit more clearly too just really does help YOU to better understand just what is going on with your functions. i do hope this is nothing overly serious and easily treatable. at least he is where he needs to be right now, so thats good. please do keep me posted on what you find out, K? good luck with this broberts. This sounds alot like when my problems started. I certainly hope not for you, but your Dr. should check for a disease called NASH. My spelling eludes me at the moment but it stands for Non Alcholic Steahepititis(sp?) It destroys the liver quietly and often as in my case causes cirrhosis of the liver. I started having a pain on my right side that continued to get worse. A test revealed gallstones and it was not until the surgery to remove the gallbladder that all the other bad news came to light. As the other person suggested, make sure you have copies made of all lab test you have done. Don't be shy about requesting those and the Doctor reports. Good Luck!! I will keep you in my prayers.
