finding their way in the industry? I want to get a novel published. i have been writing since i was 5 years old, it was easy when i was a child! i now have so much difficulty finding help in Western Australia that i started my own business, called Creative Reader's Or Writer'S. i am now finding that people in the writing industry are even more abrupt and try to push me off more than before. Have any other writers in Western Australia had similar problems?
I don't know whether to find an agent for my book @ this time. I was talking to a reference person @ a major bookstore & he said the publishing industry was hurting in the economy like other businesses. Within the store they're laying off shelvers & clerks. If you notice, books that were out 2 or more years ago are being reintroduced as "new selections". The only difference is it's probably paperback w/ a different cover than the last one.
Part of the reason is that people want to read books online for free. Of course it hurts the publisher & bookseller, but the author gets hurt the most. There are no royalties flowing in. Perhaps a boycott is in order.
I've been having the hardest time trying to get an agent. It sucks because I get great feedback, and that's suppose to be 'good' but all the feedback and kind words in the world don't add up to an agent.
I'm in eastern usa. Good for you starting your own business. I was thinking about doing that. I just don't have the funds.
