Jan., '09? While driving east on a street in northwest Detroit (mid January, 2009, about 6 pm), I observed a bright light, relatively low, in the northern sky. It appeared to be far away and stationary, because for the 2/3 mile or so I drove east, before turning, it stayed in about the same place in my line of sight.
Several days later I was a passenger in a car with my son, also headed east (about 5:15 pm), and we saw three bright streaks or something. They looked almost like relatively short, compact streaks of jet exhaust, but they didn't dissipate. Interestingly, the streak that was to our right (south) moved and stopped under one of the other streaks. Other than that , they appeared to be stationary. This time we drove a couple of miles east, and could tell we were getting closer to the streaks, but still could not at all tell what they were. My son says he has several times recently seen something that he'd interpreted as a bright star, where he now realizes no star should have been.
Does anyone have any idea what we may have seen?

I have heard reports of local sightings of aurorae over the past few days. That is probably what you saw.

Airplanes are often coming into Detroit Metro from the North. There's often a line of them. When they're high up, coming in slow, they can look stationary. When they're far off, the lights often appear as a single light.

At least it's not another Venus sighting.

And someone got your bird sighting right. And 3 people voted correctly, too. Will wonders never cease.

I think i have seen something like that recently while i went to cleveland, it sounds like what you are describing

UFO

They live here among us humans and disguise themselves well. I know one too. Have you every seen someone that looked like an alien? If you have, I want to meet 'em.
